It appears that avast kept my customized settings. When the installation was done, Avast requested a reboot, which I allowed. Selected only the components I wanted, as noted in the preceding post. I backed-up my customized settings (from 2016), and ran the offline installer. I'm giving it a shot on my (secondary) XP system.
